We love helping local communities, whether it’s clearing out parks and public areas or leisure centres and other popular spaces. So whenever we’re approached to do some landscaping at a school, we’re all too happy to jump into action.
This is exactly what happened when a primary school in Sale rang us up to ask if we could clear their tired hoggin path. It was overgrown, dirty, and ruined the look of the outside of the school. We said, ‘we’re on our way’, picked up our tools, and set off to get stuck in.
What is a Hoggin Path?
Hoggin is a combination of gravel, sand, and clay that binds together to make a great surface for basic paths. Unlike traditional gravel paths, there are no loose stones to make a mess or get stuck in shoes.

School paths need to be tough. Although the feet are smaller than average, it’s still a lot of foot traffic. That’s why we’re often called in to top them up with fresh material, which is often all it takes to make them look like new again.
But that wasn’t all we did. Like a lot of paths that have grass either sides, the edges had started to creep in and made it look unkempt. We trimmed them back, and gave the grass a mow.
A simple job on paper, but it was a long path, so there was still a lot to do. It was far too much for any members of staff on site to handle; they were right to call in the professionals.
Soon the path was open for business again, and kids could head in and out of school on a path that looked better than new. Thanks to our efforts, the path is now easier to maintain, and we hope they call again if there’s another landscaping job they need help with!
